2015 – five races to raise funds for two children’s charities :)

So a new year and be rude not to raise some funds for a couple of worthy charities. This year I am doing five races (mad fool!) for the Demelza Hospice Care for Children and the Children’s Trust.

The five races are:
May 17th Staines 10K

June 14th Orpington High Elms 10K

July date TBC Dorney Dash 10K

Aug 9th Bushy Park 10K

Oct 25th Great South Run (Portsmouth)

It is a big ask as I normally only do three races per year, still no Ealing half-marathon this year as ten miles is my limit now.

About the two chosen charities:

The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. We work with children and young people from across the UK, both from our specialist centre in Tadworth, Surrey and in communities around the country.

Our vision

That all children with brain injury have the opportunity to live the best life possible.

Our mission

For children with brain injury and their families, we aim…

  • to be an internationally-recognised centre of excellence for care, rehabilitation, education and research
  • to reach out to children and families in their own community
  • to provide expert advice, training and information
  • to make our voice heard.

The Demelza Hospice Care for Children

Children’s hospices support children and young people (0-19) who are not expected to reach adulthood, and offer support to their families.

Children’s hospices can differ significantly from adult hospices in that many of the conditions children and young people are suffering from are degenerative in nature and progress over many years.

This means that children’s hospices have the opportunity to offer children, young people and families the chance to build memories as a family unit, undertake a range of activities that are age and needs specific that they may not ordinarily be able to access.

A children’s hospice may offer complex symptom control during periods of active treatment. In many cases there is no cure. In others, treatment has been tried but failed and the focus has transferred from active to palliative care.

When a diagnosis is given, families often feel very isolated. Children’s hospices provide the necessary short breaks and a range of specialist services benefiting the children and young people themselves and their wider family, which are simply not available elsewhere. – See more here.

Robin George album charity download

ROBIN GEORGE has kindly donated a download of his wonderful nine track album ‘Love, Peace & Power’.

new credits GTTROCK

It is only £10 to download the album and all proceeds will go to CLAPA (Cleft Lip & Palate Association):

Says Robin George:

‘Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many of the best musicians in the industry and it occurred to me that one song I wrote some years ago, LovePower and Peace, had been recorded by many of those talents.

I mentioned to a friend that I was planning to mix the song featuring all those artists, and he suggested making it a sharing single.

It was so obviously a great idea that my enthusiasm was shared by everyone I approached. As I invited each artist to join LovePower, they would suggest others that they thought would love to be involved for example, Pete Thompson (Robin Trower Band) introduced Pete Haycock (Climax Blues Band) Dom Brown (Duran Duran)  got involved.

So this has become a labour of love not only for me, but for all of the great artists involved. Everyone has commented that they feel honoured to be working with such fabulous musicians for such deserving causes,

Summer fundraising update

After completing the Staines 10K last month I am gearing up for my first half-marathon in over twenty years, the Ealing half-marathon on September 29th. As a warm-up I am doing the Dorney 10K on Saturday 20th July and this should be a good race as a) it’s flat and b) it is around the Olympic rowing lake. These two races I will be raising funds for CLAPA (The Cleft Lip & Palate Association). The fundraising for CLAPA (The Cleft Lip & Palate Association) is currently at £418 and looking good to hit my £500 target 🙂

I am also rounding up some more signed goodies for charity auctions on EBay and these will include a set of all four Jackdaw4 CD’s (kindly donated by Willie Dowling), plus more TBC (any contacts for items gratefully received). For the latest on signed items for auction on EBay pop over to:

Thanks again for your continued support as it is very much appreciated.

Warm-up 10K in July for the big ‘un in Septemeber

For my ‘warm-up’ race for the Ealing half-marathon at the end of September I am doing a new 10K for me the Dorney Dash on Saturday 20th July. Looks like a lovely course around the former Olympic rowing lake and it’s a flat course as well J

I am also hopefully getting a few more signed goodies for EBay charity auctions for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) who I will be running the Ealing half marathon for.

Taking a break…plus Staines 10K

Staines 10k looming nearer and I am running for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS). This run and one in the summer for CLAPA will be my last fundraising for this year as I am going to take a year off.

It is getting harder and harder to raise funds and I don’t like to keep asking the same generous folks and pestering the same wonderful bands & authors who have kindly donated signed items.

Still I aim to go out with a nice decent sum raised for both charities and as ever any help much appreciated.

Training and the Staines 10K

Good to see the Staines 10K on Sunday May 19th has nearly reached its 600 entrants maximum and raised over £400 for charity through entrance fees. I am running and raising funds for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).

I am doing a couple of runs per week at the moment although the warmer weather does tend to entice me out more. Yes I freely admit I am a fair weather runner 🙂

Still looking for a half marathon between June and late August. My home town Potters ‘Arf would be ideal but I can’t make that weekend. Any suggestions most welcome.

Hope to have some more signed goodies soon. Have a fair few requests out there and just hoping some respond.

My JustGiving pages are:

http://www.justgiving.com/rochdale2013 (for CLAPA)

Any help promoting them very much appreciated.

Signed Tom Bromley books for charity

Thanks to author Tom Bromley there are three signed books of his raising funds for CLAPA and the NDCS:

‘Wired for Sound: Now That’s What I Call An 80’s Music Childhood’ bid here

‘All In The Best Possible Taste: Growing Up Watching Telly In The 80’s’ bid here

The third book on one hit wonders will be online soon. Having read all  three books I can highly recommend them, so you get a great read plus you help a charity at the same time. Thanks again to Tom Bromley and do pop along to his website http://www.tombromley.co.uk/

I am also working on getting signed items for the Stoke City £150 fundraising (to tie0in with the club’s 150th anniversary) for the two charities. I am aiming to raise £150 for CLAPA & the NDCS through these signed Stoke City related items. Any contacts for Stoke players past and present gratefully received.
